Patent Litigation Settles with Mutual Agreement

September 21st, 2007 · No Comments

Patent litigation lawsuits can last a long time but in the end, there could be a settlement which is mutually agreed upon by both sides.  Such was the case with a patent litigation lawsuit involving China’s leading semiconductor companies, Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd and Texas company Sigma Tel, Inc.  This patent lawsuit reached a settlement where both parties dismissed the legal action they were taking against each other.  Part of the settlement includes both Actions Semiconductor and Sigma Tel entering into a three year patent cross license agreement.  The rest of the terms of the settlement are confidential.

This is a case where there was mutual understanding that it is in the best interest of both companies to compete in an open market as opposed to the courtroom as stated by Sigma Tel’s Chief Executive Officer.  Like in other patent litigation cases, parties involved in the lawsuits come to realize that what they used to be the unique holders of is now being produced by competing companies.
